What if this happens in India

Please check out the link:

India a booming economy , a new technology hub for various sectors ; but still struggeling with the fact of oppression of the weaker may it be fairerer sex (http://www.shvoong.com/law-and-politics/law/1958511-http-timesofindia-indiatimes-com-city/) or any poor who is forced to obey.
We are entering year 2010 with all this aura with us.
Let us think what would have happened if such thing (what Lindsay Lohan did, ref. link above ) would have happened in India.
Imagine any crowded market may it be chandani chowk in Delhi, Lakshmi road in Pune, crawfard market in Mumbai, or market in Goa, ... etc

I'll tell you what will happen..we will all 'enjoy' the spectacle and the very next day, we will leave no stone unturned in condemning it. Lecherous hypocrites that we are.

i partially agree with what anirudh said.

anyways, my question is: why would such a person (LL or the likes) want to roam around in the street markets... don't they prefer high-end malls and exclusive showrooms?
where they feel safer and free to bare? :)

Certainly it would have made a big headline all over the media. Some people might have cherished the cutting of the news papers for long time. That is actually pretty normal. One thing which I don't understand is actually, why do we want it to happen in India. How is the opposing of such thing is suppression of anything. Is it not just because somehow the notion has become that we have to follow West at any cost? Its the blind copying which bothers me most. We are simply losing sense of pride and ownership of our own culture and even more unfortunate is the fact that such people are considered elite and open minded. Open mindedness is not just accepting everything. Its much more and different than that. May be I can explain that in my next blog :)

"Feminism in India is not a singular theoretical orientation. It has changed over time in relation to historical and cultural realities, levels of consciousness, perceptions and actions of individual women and women as a group.Feminists define feminism in time and space in order to avoid the uncritical following of Western ideas. Indian women negotiate survival through an array of oppressive patriarchal family structures: age, ordinal status, relationship to men through family of origin, marriage and procreation as well as patriarchal attributes - dowry, siring sons etc." (Courtesy: Wikipedia)

So, there would be opposition even from hard core feminists in India. She will not escape from the protest of 'Stee Mukti Sanghatana' for sure..

And yes Saurabh should opt to settle abroad.. :-)
